A Hero of Chastity.
Saint Martinian of Palestine.

Saint Martinian
Saint Martinian loved God from childhood, and so was well prepared, though a youth of eighteen, to renounce the vanity of the world. Abandoning Caesarea of Palestine, he took up his dwelling on the mount called "The Ark" and led the angelic life of stillness there for twenty-five years. God bestowed on him the gift of healing and exorcism, working numerous miracles through His favorite. Daily the blessed Martinian redoubled his wondrous strivings for virtue, and soon his fame had spread to distant lands, bringing him crowds eager for edification.
Sometime later, citizens of Caesarea were discussing the blessed Martinian's virtuous life, and especially his marvelous courage and patience. A whore called Zoe overheard the conversation and, stirred by the demon, asked the men, "Why does the ascetic so amaze you? Do you really think his virtue unwavering? I can bring him down like a leaf from a tree. What do you see in him worthy of praise? He fled to the desert like a beast, because in the city he could not endure lusts of the flesh. It is no wonder he is passionless: he never sees a woman. You know very well that without fire straw does not burn. It truly would be a marvel, however, if straw did not burn when thrown into a fire. The same for this fellow. If he sees me and is not tempted by my beauty, that would be something marvelous. That would show he is great not only before men, but before God and the angels as well."

A Letter from a Russian Monk.
Saint John of Valaam (Alexeyev).

Saint John Alexeyev: on November 29, 2018, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Throne recorded in the Hagiologion of the Orthodox Church the Venerable John of Valaam (1873-1958). John was born on February 14, 1873 in the Tver province of Russia into a peasant family. He graduated from the parish school of the village of Il’inskoe.

of Valaam (Alexyev).
In 1889, he entered Valaam Monastery. After spending four years in the Skete of Saint Herman of Valaam, he was conscripted into the army for another four years. Released from military service, he temporarily returned home before returning, in 1901, to Valaam. John was given obedience for two years at the metochion of the Valaam Monastery in St. Petersburg. Later, he wrote that the city had a bad influence on him and that he, weak in spirit, could not accommodate the urban bustle.
In 1906, John became a novice at Valaam Monastery and, on May 22, 1910, he was tonsured a monk with the name of Hyacinth. After repeated petitions, Hyacinth returned to the monastery and lived initially in Prophet Elias Skete, then later in the Skete of Saint John the Baptist. On October 19, 1921, he was appointed abbot of Saint Tryphon of Pechenga Monastery. Then on November 13, he was ordained a hierodeacon and on November 15 a hieromonk. At that time, the monastery was within the territory of the newly independent Finland.
In 1932, Hyacinth returned to Valaam and, in 1933, he was tonsured in Great Schema with the name John and began to live in seclusion in the Skete of Saint John the Baptist. In 1938, he was elected the spiritual father of the monastery.

“Ceci est à moi”.
Jean-Claude Larchet.

The noetic prayer is for all Christians .
Abbot Haralambos Dionysiatis.

I place below a collection of questions to my ever-memorable Elder, Father Haralambos, from his spiritual children and pious pilgrims, and the Elder's answers to these.
Question: Elder, what is your opinion, since you teach "noetic prayer", is it only for monastics or does it concern all Christians?
Elder: From all that the Holy Fathers write, but also from my experience, I can see that noetic prayer is for all Christians. However, it's not for the heretics, and it's even more difficult for the heterodox.
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God
have mercy on me, a sinner"
- You give us a lot of encouragement by saying that noetic prayer is also for those of us who live in the world. However, we need help. We have tried to apply what is written in the books but it seems hard.
- Of course, it's hard. This work not only requires struggle, it also requires an experienced guide. Do you have a spiritual father?.
- We have, Elder. He is good, but he says that he doesn't know how to teach us about "noetic prayer".
- Let it be. There is even worse. If you don't know, say that you don't know. But don't impede the other from learning.
Well, since you have a confessor, I don't need to confess you.

God wants us to think of Him as a parent.
This is the healthy way of relating to God. He wants us to relate to Him as His children. As we say in church during the Holy Liturgy: “Make us worthy, O Holy One, to dare call You Father, the God of Heaven. Then we recite the Lord's Prayer:
Our Father ...
Christ himself taught us how to pray and how to call God our Father.
He did not teach us to call Him either “Master”, “Heavenly Ruler”, “Absolute One”, or anything else. Just “Our Father”. This is very important. God has revealed His true nature to us. He said, “Do you want to know what to call me?. What My name is?. What I feel for you?. I am Your Father. Therefore, you are My children.
It is by far the most mature and the healthiest understanding of God. Whatever we do we must do it within the context of this loving relationship. Then we will feel a certain sense of nobility. How should I put it?. It is like a child who feels totally comfortable and at home within a loving household. We do not feel like strangers, in our Father's home, but members of the family. The Church, the entire universe is our home, the house of our Father. We are neither slaves nor employees in this universe. We are the children of this omnipotent, omniscient, and totally loving God.

Jésus a trente ans.
